    The Three Forks Community Library is starting a new tradition this holiday season. Beginning on December 1 and through December 25, the "Festival of Stories: Celebrating Holidays Around Town" will feature a guest Three Forks resident or business owner reading a story that will be posted at 11 a.m. daily on the library's Facebook page (@ThreeForksCommunityLibrary).     The City of Three Forks recently sent a letter to Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks Director Dustin Temple asking for a meeting with the agency about the Three Forks Ponds.     There was some fantastic recent news for the Three Forks Schools, with the announcement of Lead Chef Ashley Darling winning two awards in the Montana School Nutrition Association's School Food Contest. Darling won a first-place award for Yogurt Berry Bowls in the "Local" category and finished in second place for Breakfast Quiche in the "Cooking from Scratch" category.     The newest Gallatin County tax bills include the first per-parcel assessment of $195 for the City of Three Forks Jefferson River Floodplain Mitigation Project. In 2022, the Three Forks City Council passed a resolution of intent to create Special Improvement District #34 and selected a per-parcel assessment method to help cover the costs of the project that will use a grass-lined conveyance channel and culvert crossing improvements to reduce flood risk from the Jefferson River.     The giving nature of the Three Forks community will be on display with the first-annual Winter Wonderland Toy Drive. The event organized by the First Security Bank Three Forks Branch and Headwaters Area Food Bank will allow residents the opportunity to donate new toys and or food through December 15.     The Three Forks Education Foundation once again stepped up for the betterment of local schools last week by awarding their annual teacher grants. Eight Three Forks teachers were awarded grants for the 2023-24 school year for a total of $5,872. Teacher Katie Magnus received $200 she will use to purchase Q Bots for fifth-grade students, which she said will be something a little more challenging for her students.   • Design work underway on western Old Town Bridge

    Design work is underway for replacing the Old Town Bridge (West) in Broadwater County. According to Broadwater County Commissioner Darrel Folkvord, once Stahly Engineering and Associates completes the work and it is reviewed, the bidding process will begin, and a contractor will be selected to complete the project.     The Broadwater County Commission is seeking letters of support for a proposed emergency services facility on the east side of U.S. 287 in the Wheatland Targeted Economic Development District (TEDD) near Three Forks.     The Meridian Bridge Replacement Project is complete. The project, which saw full closure of the bridge on April 17, was completed and opened for traffic on October 19. The project was a joint effort between Gallatin County, Jefferson County, and Broadwater County and received funding with a grant from the Montana Coal Endowment Program (MCEP).
