  • Column: The magical last days of school

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|May 24, 2023

With the school year ending, it brings back many memories, especially those of grade school and what was always a very relaxed pace at the end of the year. Looking back, I’m pretty sure nothing important got completed in the last two weeks of the year, and it was more of a controlled “romper room” type environment. I keep hearing how pickleball has become huge in gym classes these days. Still, I can’t possibly imagine the game being anywhere near as impressive as during the last few days of the year when the gym teacher would bring out the gig... Full story

  • Column: Pizza Rolls, I still love you

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|May 17, 2023

I don’t travel often, but when I do, it is usually for a sporting event or concert. Perhaps even more than the actual event, my favorite part of the journey is the different restaurants I visit. Often, I will visit a place known for a specialty dish, and as soon as I get home, I am like a scientist in the kitchen trying to figure out how they made something taste so magnificent. I enjoy these moments and the countless times during the year when I cook one of the family’s favorite recipes. I’m even learning to be a bit more patient when cooking... Full story

  • Column: You better stop this Greyhound Bus

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|May 10, 2023

If you ever want to be extremely uncomfortable on a long trip, I highly recommend riding a Greyhound Bus. A few years back, I was able to take a few trips on a Greyhound, and it is something I still think of a lot – and not fondly. On one occasion, I was sitting on a bus at the station in Las Vegas, and an entire K-9 crew showed up and stormed down the aisles. It was something straight out of a television show, and I wouldn’t say I liked it at all. There was another time I met some “travelers” from Australia who gave me a big scoop of Vegemit... Full story
