After falling 17-2 at Florence in the program's first game Friday, the Three Forks High School Softball team played far better in the second game of the doubleheader. Head Coach Clay Feliciano said with the first game in program history, jitters were expected, and they talked to the team between games, and the players had a great attitude. "They completely left that game behind them and battled the defending state Champs all seven innings in game 2. We went into the 7th down 8-5 and ended up... Full story

U.S. Senator Jon Tester met with officials in Three Forks last week to learn more about the City's Flood Mitigation Project. Tester said it is smart of the municipality to be moving forward with the project that includes a recently adopted Special Improvement District. "Anytime you can be proactive as a community, that is really critically smart. Doing the best you can to prepare and minimize the risk can save a lot of money. So, I applaud those efforts," Tester said. In October 2022, the City... Full story

  • Column: Just like riding a bike

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Mar 29, 2023

The expression “it’s just like riding a bike” is prevalent when someone is reintroduced to something once a constant. It’s been so long since I have been on a bike that I’m unsure if the saying would ring true, and I would probably fall off my first one to 20 attempts. It has probably been about 30 years since I took a bike ride, and it is certainly not something I am proud of, and I should do something about it. I’m not quite sure what happened, but there was a time when I was on my bike just about every day, weather permitting. Growing up... Full story

  • Column: No beef with a four-day week

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Mar 22, 2023

While there certainly are some hassles about being self-employed, there are also many rewarding things. One of my favorite things about having a home office is unless I’m out covering an event or doing an in-person interview, I can wear whatever I want. There is something comforting about writing a story or editing photos in sweatpants and a t-shirt. Based on watching this year’s NCAA Basketball tournament, college coaches are also fine wearing the equivalent of pajamas while they work. While I do enjoy the mini office in my bedroom, I som... Full story

  • Column: A March Madness Road Trip

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Mar 15, 2023

I’m an avid sports fan, and my absolute favorite time of the year is the NCAA Basketball Tournament, especially the first four days. I may not leave the couch this Thursday morning until Sunday night, and I’m perfectly okay with this. As a kid, I attended the tournament with my grandparents, cheered on the University of Wyoming basketball team, and witnessed their magical run to the Sweet 16 and a heartbreaking loss in the first round the following year against Loyola Marymount. Unfortunately, they have not returned to the NCAA Tournament too... Full story

Three Forks Education Foundation Board President Dave Chojnacki is passionate when he speaks about the local organization that provides scholarships and teacher grants. "We are a small school. • Column: Is that a monster at the self checkout?

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Mar 8, 2023

I’m okay with getting a little more cynical every day, and I guess it’s just part of my journey of aging. I’m at the point where most things cause me stress, but a few hit home a little harder. These are just a few examples of the little things that are turning my hair grayer by the day. I try to shop locally and small as much as I can. It is important. Unfortunately, there are times when I have to venture out to a bigger “box” store, and when the lines are long, I will use self-checkout to get in and out as quickly as possible. Every tim... Full story

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Mar 8, 2023

There was plenty to be proud of with this year's Three Forks High School Boys' Basketball team. After losing eight seniors from last year's state championship squad, the 2022-23 team forged their own identity, ended the campaign as 5B regular season and tournament champions, and finished just one game away from the state tournament. The Wolves' season came to an end at last week's Southern B Divisional Tournament after a 73-55 loss to Lame Deer. Three Forks opened the Divisional Tournament on... Full story

  • Column: No popcorn chicken? Time to riot

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Mar 1, 2023

You can’t log onto social media these days without seeing some vitriol spewing in the comments sections. It really is unfortunate, and I miss the days when all I would see were pictures of people’s families. At this point, I’d even settle for watching videos of fireworks on the Fourth of July that never turn out well but get posted anyway. I do my best to navigate through the cesspool associated with an online experience, but sometimes I go down a rabbit hole I wish I would never have entered. This was certainly the case the other day, and it s... Full story

A little over 24 hours later, the Wolves answered the call and took home a District Tournament title after a three-pointer from Feddes with 3.6 seconds remaining propelled top-seeded Three Forks to a 53-52 win over rival Manhattan.
