  • Column: My weight in breadsticks

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Sep 28, 2022

While I much rather work at a smaller community newspaper like the Three Forks Voice, I do miss a few things about a larger publication. One of the biggest things is the camaraderie among the employees. I have made lifelong friends throughout my travels working at papers across the western United States. There were always plenty of office shenanigans, and so many times, the staff would go to lunch during the week to take a quick break. When I worked in Washington state, the main office for the newspaper company I worked for was a quick walk... Full story

  • Column: Announcing is tough

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Sep 21, 2022

I love to watch football and was a little more than fired up to watch the Denver Broncos open the NFL season with a Monday Night Football matchup at Seattle. It turns out it was a very bizarre game with an awful ending. Even worse, I had to listen to Troy Aikman and Joe Buck announce the game. Whenever I have to hear the duo, it is worse than nails screeching on my grade school chalkboard, and by around the second quarter, I need to put the game on mute to keep my sanity. It’s even worse when Buck is calling a baseball game. I don’t think I’v...

  • Column: Did I really just panic buy Sriracha?

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Sep 14, 2022

At the onset of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, I would cringe whenever I would go to the store and see people loading up their carts with toilet paper. I had no idea why everyone thought they needed excessive amounts, and it was frustrating when I needed a couple of rolls and could not find any. I remember seeing a friend in Las Vegas posting a picture of him waiting outside in what was similar to a "Black Friday" line so that he could purchase a package. It was a really strange time, and I am... Full story

  • Column: The morbid joy of funeral sandwiches

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Sep 7, 2022

Every so often, I get in a bit of a rut when it comes to the nightly dinner menu, and we seem to be eating tacos and spaghetti a bit more than we probably should. While there is certainly nothing wrong with either, we probably eat them more than we should, and this rut usually serves as a great way to introduce some new items to the dinner table. A few weeks ago, I wanted to break loose from the blasé menu and bring back an old favorite we had not eaten in a few years. We had planned on watching a UFC fight, so it seemed like a perfect... Full story

  • Our View: Hats off to the historical society

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Sep 7, 2022

During the summer of 2021, I had a wonderful experience working at the Three Forks Visitors Information Center. It served as a great way to promote the Three Forks area and meet and visit with many of the people who were visiting the area. During this time, I was also able to see in person the hard-working members of the Three Forks Area Historical Society. I quickly learned just how valuable their efforts are for the community. Especially during the summer months, society members donate numerous volunteer hours at the Headwaters Heritage Museu...

Against Manhattan, we were much more resilient and did a better job of finishing out sets," said head coach Shann Mack. "Every win or loss is a total team effort, but... Full story
