The Three Rivers Senior Center has long been known as a gathering place for area residents. The center also has a variety of items to assist area senior citizens. According to Mel Hamilton, the items provided free of charge for residents to lend out include self-propelled and electric wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, and shower aids. • Column: Ketchup Sammies?

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Jul 6, 2022

One of my favorite parts of summer in the Treasure State is being able to sit outside in the evenings. I have a beautiful view from my back porch, and I often spend hours in the evening enjoying it. When I’m doing this, I often like to get something on the grill for dinner. Last year I was not able to enjoy outdoor cooking quite as much. At one point, the grill I had looked like a champion, but after buying it used, it finally ran its course and would barely produce heat. I hated cooking in a hot house, so I was elated when my mom bought me a... Full story

It is a little bit disheartening I did not have a cat as a pet until I was in my 30s. I was always told I was allergic growing up, and I could never spend time with any cats. I had no idea the joy I was missing. While living in Washington state, I was able to rescue a kitty, which changed my life. I now enjoy all the craziness that goes with cats daily, and I love it. Each of my cats has a different personality, and they are probably as weird as I am. They fit in perfectly at the house. One... Full story

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Jun 29, 2022

The Three Forks community will come together in a little over two weeks for the annual Rodeo Dayz Celebration. It will be an excellent time for both area residents and visitors who attend the rodeo and various other events that take place over the weekend. Any larger event in a smaller community could not happen without the many volunteers who step up to the plate to take on a multitude of tasks to help things run smoothly. A huge thanks should be given to all the volunteers from the rodeo board, chamber of commerce, and the others who help.... Full story

The results of this month's Marijuana Excise Taxes vote in Gallatin County were not certified and will be back on the ballot in November. • Column: The Flying Menu

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Jun 22, 2022

I have the utmost respect for restaurant owners and employees. Having worked a few years at a Mexican restaurant in college, I was able to see a couple pour their heart and soul into the business with countless hours of hard work. At this time, I learned that waiting tables was a stressful position. At the same time, I still had a lot of fun and could eat world-class green chili daily, which was never bad. The restaurant I worked at was like a family, and that is something I see locally, and I absolutely love it. In last week’s edition, I h... Full story

  • Column: Mini Vacation

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Jun 15, 2022

A few weeks ago, I made a three-day trip to my hometown in Wyoming for the first time since 2019. This was the longest I had ever gone without making the trip, and I had no trouble jumping out of bed at 5 a.m. so I could get on the road early. The fact the route I take does not involve an Interstate takes me through some beautiful country, but at the same time, I was cursing up a storm each time I got behind someone hauling a trailer without a passing lane anywhere to be found. I’m sure many people are comfortable passing, but it makes me a bit...

  • Column: The lawn

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Jun 8, 2022

The summer before I started junior high, I moved to a different part of town. While it was away from many of the friends I had grown up with, I enjoyed having a much larger house and the opportunity to meet new friends. This also meant new neighbors, which happened to be a great group of people. One of these neighbors was Bill. He was the type of guy that had to be busy. Even though he had a full-time job as a firefighter for the city, he also had a part-time job as a delivery driver on his days off. Despite this packed schedule, he still had... Full story

  • Column: Working at home

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|May 18, 2022

Until March of 2020, I had never spent much time working from home. Occasionally I would write a story at home, but I preferred to do it at the office. I always tried my best to separate work from home and going to the office to write allowed me to do this. When COVID-19 entered the world, this started to change. Two years later, this has drastically changed. I now spend a lot of my time working from home, but to be honest, I’m still not sure how I feel about it. There are certainly a few positives about working from home, the first being that...
