  • Our View: Be kind when grabbing a bite

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Sep 29, 2021

The other day I received a press release that announced Montana had hit a 14-year low for unemployment. At first glance, this was great news for the Treasure State, but I became confused the more I thought about it. The numbers are undoubtedly positive, but at the same time, there are plenty of places that are desperately in need of help, so the outlook is not as promising as it may appear. Businesses in Three Forks and the Gallatin Valley, especially restaurants, are having difficulty finding staff. Some fast-food establishments have closed...

  • Column: Reverse Sear

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Sep 29, 2021

In my humble opinion, there isn’t much better to eat than a perfectly cooked steak. I always love trying a steakhouse while traveling and love to throw one on the grill during the summertime. We don’t have steak too often at the house, but there are no complaints from anyone and rarely any leftovers whenever we do. During Labor Day weekend, I had family members come to the area, and they rented a house. I did most of the cooking, and one day we decided to have steak. The rental only had a very tiny charcoal grill, and I was a bit int... Full story

  • Column: Magazine Drive Madness

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Sep 22, 2021

I’m not going to lie whenever I describe how I felt about attending junior high. It was weird, socially exhausting, and crippled with challenges. While there were undoubtedly some shining moments, I was not too fond of it for the most part. It does, however, bring back many memories, and often these snapshots in time make for an interesting column. During my stretch at East Junior High School, that sounded like I was in prison, which often felt like it. There was always one time a year the school was complete chaos. I’m referring to the ann... Full story

Wilson said she had a hankering to volunteer somewhere and loved to cook, so quickly became very interested in "Lasagna Love". Wilson decided to sign up after learning more about Lasagna Love, a nationwide grassroots movement aiming to positively impact communities by connecting neighbors with neighbors through homemade meal delivery. Now the Lasagna... Full story

  • Local Boards Need Volunteers

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Sep 15, 2021

The significance of volunteers in city government cannot be understated. This is certainly true in smaller communities, including the City of Three Forks who currently has vacancies on two citizen advisory boards. According to City Clerk Crystal Turner, there is an opening on the Three Forks Zoning and Planning Board. At least one and hopefully two volunteers are needed to serve on the City Board of Adjustments and Appeals, which desperately needs help. “Right now, if anyone applies for a variance, we couldn’t even hear it because without four... Full story

In action last week, the Wolves fell 43-0 on the road against the top-ranked team in Class B, Florence Carlton. • Column: Another Thanksgiving

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Sep 8, 2021

One could almost describe it as a scene from a movie as my large extended family wrapped up Thanksgiving dinner and sat around the table talking. When there were still empty stomachs the conversation was more small talk but as bellies filled with food and a few spirits it would always turn into a very spirited and sometimes heated debate. As soon as someone mentioned politics the mood of the room would quickly change. After about an hour, people were mad at each other and this was usually the sign for some to go home while others continued to...

After a scoreless first two-quarters last Friday night at home against Red Lodge, the Three Forks High School football team opened the second half in explosive fashion. A 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Jacob Buchignani would end up being the only point the Wolves would need in a 6-0 victory to improve their record to 2-0. Head Coach Connor Sullivan lauded his special teams for their efforts on the game's lone score. "That was huge for us. We preach special teams during the week and...
