    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Jun 9, 2021

The City of Three Forks has recently completed several new projects that will benefit local residents. According to Mayor Sean Gifford, city employees made a beach area at the ponds at Bellach Park in May. "We leveled out an area and moved in sand in the hopes to accommodate the growing number of people using the ponds for recreation," Gifford said. The sand volleyball park at Stevenson Park has also been moved to the ponds. The City is also working on a concrete slab as Stevenson Park that...

Born and raised in Missouri, Uthlaut comes...

  • Our View: Your Voice Matters with Growth Policy Update

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Jun 9, 2021

With the City of Three Forks currently in Phase 2 of a five-year update on their Growth Policy, input from residents will play an integral role in the final document. For those who may not have had the opportunity to fill out a questionnaire, it would be huge for the City for them to take a few minutes to do so. With the idea of shaping the long-term goals for the City of Three Forks with the updated growth policy, public feedback is vital. Not every resident will feel the same way about what...

  • Column: Slow it down

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Jun 9, 2021

I was lucky enough to have grown up in Wyoming and to spend the past six years living in Montana. In my humble opinion, there are not two better states in America. I should probably visit all 50 states before making that assumption, but I’ve done enough traveling to know that I might be onto something. Maybe Vermont is the absolute best place, and I need to get there, but there is just something special about Montana and Wyoming. There are so many wonderful things about living in Montana, and for the past two years, I have enjoyed living out o... Full story

Amid a five-year update on the City of Three Forks Growth Policy, preliminary results of an ongoing questionnaire show 131 of 265 responders indicating they would like to see some sort of local bus system or rideshare program. • Column: The Tambourine

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Jun 2, 2021

I cannot play a musical instrument, and I’m pretty sure if anyone would hear me sing, they might run away as fast and as far away as possible. On one occasion in college, I was part of an organization that joined a singing competition. As silly as it sounds, the “Homecoming Sing” was a huge deal. While I was needed for numbers so it would look like we were a huge ensemble, I was told to lip-sync and that I don’t dare sing when we get onto stage. So, although I have a “Homecoming Sing” title, I was only going through the motions. While I am... Full story

  • Column: The Mower

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|May 26, 2021

Before moving to Montana six years ago, it had been quite a while since I had a nice yard that I could enjoy. The last place I lived had a nice big patch of dirt in front of the house, which was depressing, and since I didn’t own the home, I didn’t have a say. I missed sitting outside in a nice space and enjoying a summer evening and that is not near as much fun in dirt. Once I moved to Montana, I probably overcompensated for wanting a yard and ended up with enough grass to make mowing a full-time job. One of my first purchases in the Tre... Full story

  • Column: Fried Chicken and Graduation

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|May 19, 2021

With the Three Forks High School 2021 graduation ceremony just days away, this is the perfect time to write a column about Colonel Sanders. Whoever reads this might be a little bit confused about what those two things have to do with each other. I’m hoping after reading this, you might see a hit more about how they are related. Colonel Sanders is synonymous with fried chicken for an older generation, and even those who might not care for Kentucky Fried Chicken, there was no escaping his presence. The younger generation cannot escape Sanders e... Full story

  • 'Batty' new addition at Caverns

    JACK H. SMITH, Three Forks Voice|May 12, 2021

There is a wonderful new addition at Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park. It is also one that came as quite the surprise to Park Manager Rhea Armstrong. When a new flagpole was recently installed at the park, a new bat pole topper was also placed on top. Armstrong said a new maintenance worker Brian Giordano contacted Iron Maiden Welding owner Brenda Stredwick about the project. "He took a photo of one of my bat stickers on my wall and helped her create the flat pole topper," Armstrong said....

  • Column: Dad, shut up

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|May 12, 2021

I probably watch way too many sports on television, but the way I like to look at it is there are a lot worse things I could be doing with my time. One of the things that always seems to be on in my house on a Saturday is mixed martial arts, and a UFC pay-per-view is always a big event with a fun dinner that is something a little different than the normal menu. We recently had friends over for a UFC event, something strange for us to do, considering we have become hermits over the past few years. A few weeks ago, we purchased the pay-per-view... Full story
