When state counts were announced last Monday, it confirmed what many had been predicting...

  • Column: The Stuffed Burger

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|May 5, 2021

Whenever I make a seven-hour trip to my hometown, one of my first stops is at Grub's Drive-In for a double shamrock burger. It is four patties of wonderful. The only thing I have found similar to a shamrock is a 4x4 at In-N-Out burger. The first time I tried In-N-Out in Los Angeles, it took me back to my childhood and is usually the first stop if I am in Salt Lake City, Southern Utah, or head to Las Vegas for a weekend. Some people get really excited for a packed itinerary on vacation, I'm... Full story

  • Column: Concert Season

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Apr 28, 2021

When I was a junior in high school, I was able to go to my first concert, and it was an eye-opening experience I will never forget. I had been to a few concerts at the local fair, but it was nothing like what I would experience when I was able to travel three hours to Salt Lake City to see Guns N’ Roses blow the roof off the Delta Center. The only concert I remember was from the Sweetwater County Fair was going to see Chubby Checker, and watching 1,000 people do the twist probably haunted me more than residing in my head as a positive m... Full story

  • Column: Laundry and the steam tunnels

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Apr 21, 2021

Earlier today, I wrote a story about the new laundromat in Three Forks, and it reminded me of my first experience of doing my laundry regularly. While I did do an occasional load of laundry in high school, it was not until that I made it to the University of Wyoming that I learned how much my poor mom did when I was growing up. In hindsight, I should have been helping out a lot more with stuff like that, but I make up for it now by rewarding the two kids at the house with their fair share of work. The next time I head home, I should think... Full story

  • Column: Taco Tuesday

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Apr 14, 2021

The other day I heard someone on a television show mention “Taco Tuesday.” This not only made me hungry, but it also made me take a trip down memory lane to my time in high school. I was never a huge fan of high school, but one thing I did thoroughly enjoy was leaving campus for lunch. There are school districts throughout the country that produce some really high-quality food but let’s say that mine was far from one of them. Another reason I could not wait for lunchtime was the social structure of the cafeteria, although I’m sure it was pro... Full story
