During the first reading of an ordinance making changes to the Police Regulation/Animal Control Code, the Three Forks City Council voted unanimously last week to edit the definitions for “Doggy Day Cares” and “Kennels.” The governing body voted to edit the definitions so that neither a Doggy Day Care nor Kennel would be allowed in City Limits. Just a few days after Christmas, 11-year-old Sawyer Ewan had three grand mal seizures on December 29. After multiple seizures over the next three days, he was life-flighted on December 31 from Bozeman to the Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City. Once in Utah, the seizures would continue for the Gallatin Valley resident, whose parents, Aurelia Ewan and Levi Ewan, grew up in Three Forks. In a back-and-forth rivalry affair on January 11, the Three Forks High School Girls' Basketball team fell at home 46-40 to visiting Manhattan. In a December battle between the two best 120-pound wrestlers in the state, Three Forks senior Cole Rogers lost a dramatic match 6-4 in sudden victory to Chris Grossman of Billings Skyview in the finals of the CMR Classic in Great Falls. Flash forward to January 13 at the finals of the 65th annual Cowboy Classic Invitational in Miles City, Rogers was not only able to avenge his loss with a thrilling 4-2 sudden victory over Grossman, but the win was also the 100th of his high school career.... The Three Forks Volunteer Fire Department needs new members. At last week’s annual Joint Meeting with the Three Forks City Council, Fire Chief Keith Aune reported there are currently 13 of the 28 allowed volunteers. Aune told the governing body that they ask people to volunteer whenever the department is at a public function. Aune asked the Council if it would be possible to put something on the water bill to announce they are seeking additional volunteers. Aune reported there were 19 volunteers in 2022. With the Three Forks Outdoor Ice Rink at Stevenson Park open for the season, residents are reminded to follow the City's rules and regulations. The rules for the rink, which first opened in 2021, include respecting other users, especially those learning to skate, and no vehicles on the ice. The Montana Highway Patrol, along with assistance from the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a fatal accident in the early morning hours of January 4 near Three Forks. The Three Forks School District Adult Education Classes are set to begin on February 5, with eight classes available for area residents. The 2024 Classes include Navigating Computers and Social Media, Latin America Crafts, Embroidery, Tawni's Dance Fitness, Mahjongg, Woods, Pickleball, and Metals. According to District Clerk Alisa Meeks, the three-year terms for board members Robert Buchholz and Mathew Marx will be up for election later this year. There was some amazing recent news for the Three Forks Area Ambulance (TFAA) Service with the arrival and installation of a new Stryker Power Load Cot. According to Barbara Mutter of TFAA, the $53,000 cot was purchased with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding from Gallatin County.
