During her report at last week's School Board meeting, Three Forks Superintendent Dr. Rhonda Uthlaut told the governing body that they are still having some safety issues when students are being dropped off in the morning. Uthlaut recently discussed the issue at a meeting with the School Resource Officer and Counselors. Uthlaut said it gets busy on Neal Street, and parents cannot drop their kids off in the middle of traffic and have them walk in between cars, adding that the district has put a l...

When President Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States last week, it marked a new day in America. Voters rejected Joe Biden's policies that led to unaffordable prices, open borders and weakness abroad, and together with a Republican Congress he is already delivering on his America First agenda. The President nominated an all-star cabinet, including Marco Rubio for Secretary of State, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum to run the Interior Department and energy executive Chris... Full story
TikTok has been in the news a lot over the past few days. There is even an editorial cartoon about it on this page. To be honest, I have the app on my phone, but only so I can watch a video sent by one of our kids or my sisters. I haven’t lost any sleep over the app possibly being banned, but I have a 17-year-old in the house who probably would be a bit irritated. However, I do have a story about TikTok. It focuses on the bane of my existence over the past few weeks. In mid-2023, I saved a story about lawmakers in the Treasure State c...
Up 30-20 at halftime of their January 25 home conference game against Ennis, Three Forks High School Boys' Basketball Coach Terry Hauser issued a challenge to his team. "Our energy was kind of low in the first half. We just weren't playing hard enough. Ennis was out hustling us and getting loose balls. So, I challenged them to come out with more effort and intensity. I challenged myself too, I was moping around too much. I told them I would turn it up, and I want you guys to do that too,"... While the Three Forks High School Girls' Basketball team's five-game win streak came to an end last week, with back-to-back home losses to Boulder and Ennis, Head Coach Shayla Stemple shared with her team that their goal of advancing out of the 5B Tournament in February is still intact. "That's our big goal. That is in place. The message is no matter if we're winning or losing, our character, our attitude, we stay up, we stay positive, and we stay together," Stemple said following a 57-30 on... Full story
Lawmakers who want to offer Montana residents substantial immediate property tax relief face an inescapable mathematical reality: Unless they want to force local governments to lay off cops and teachers, the money to lower residential property tax bills has to come from somewhere. That somewhere, for one of the first major tax relief proposals to get a hearing before a legislative committee this year, is the state’s current pair of bed taxes: a 4% lodging facility use tax and a 4% lodging sales tax. Together, those taxes collect about $120 m...

Funding will be distributed to an unprecedented number of initial applicants and the program can no longer support new applications. “The Montana HAF Home Repairs Program received almost twice the applications within the first year of the program than we had projected we would receive through the entire p...
Governor Greg Gianforte last week announced the Montana Department of Commerce secured a $7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to speed up the construction of affordable, attainable housing in Montana. “With more people moving to Montana and with not enough homes being built, the price of housing has skyrocketed, putting a key element of the American dream out of reach for many,” Gov. Gianforte said. “Working with the legislature, we enacted key pro-housing reforms in 2023, and Montana is now a natio...
