The City of Three Forks is continuing work to update its Capital Improvements Plan (CIP). At a Council meeting earlier this month, Jerry Grebenc with Great West Engineering discussed the CIP, which he said is essentially a prioritized list of infrastructure projects with a schedule for those projects and how they will get paid. Grebenc told the Council the CIP is critical for budgeting. “For a community like Three Forks, with all the projects you have going on, whether it is water, sewer, street, flood mitigation, or trails, having an u... With the Headwaters Rest Area near the intersection of Interstate 90 and US 287 set to open sometime this summer, Broadwater County Sheriff Nick Rauser said there are many unknowns about the facility. In an interview last week, Rauser explained he is a 'prepare for the worst hope for the best type of person', and while he does think there will be an increase in calls, he isn't sure the rest area will be as popular as the recently closed one on 19th Avenue in Bozeman. Rauser said that anytime... Full story
In a Rural Press Call last week, U.S. Senator Jon Tester discussed his efforts to declare fentanyl a National Emergency. “One of our greatest threats at home is the influx of fentanyl and other dangerous drugs that are literally tearing Montana communities apart,” said Tester. “That’s why I am leading the bipartisan FEND Off Fentanyl Act to declare fentanyl a national emergency and to give the Department of Treasury and law enforcement more tools to go after the Chinese criminal organizations that provide the precursor elements to fentany... A fantastic inaugural campaign for the Three Forks High School Softball team ended at last week’s Western B/C Divisional Softball Tournament. After a 7-1 opening-round loss to St. Ignatius/Arlee-Charlo, the Wolves (8-10) bounced back with an impressive 10-5 win over Lincoln County High School (Eureka). I am beyond proud of every one of the girls, coaches, and the program as a whole,” Head Coach Clay Feliciano said. According to Felic... Full story
Last Monday, I had the opportunity to interview Commissioner Troy Downing and two members of the Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance's Financial Abuse Specialist Team (FAST). It was very disheartening to hear about some of the Montanans affected by scams, including one senior citizen who took out a $200,000 home equity line of credit and now has no funds to repay the loan. Unfortunately, in a world where nearly everyone has access to a smartphone or computer, the scams are... Full story
With the school year ending, it brings back many memories, especially those of grade school and what was always a very relaxed pace at the end of the year. Looking back, I’m pretty sure nothing important got completed in the last two weeks of the year, and it was more of a controlled “romper room” type environment. I keep hearing how pickleball has become huge in gym classes these days. Still, I can’t possibly imagine the game being anywhere near as impressive as during the last few days of the year when the gym teacher would bring out the gig... Full story

At last week's Southern B Divisional Meet, the Three Forks High School Track and Field team qualified 11 student-athletes for the 2023 Class B State Meet Scheduled for May 25 to 27 in Butte. According to Head Coach Casey McWethy, not all of the team qualified for state, but many were very close to finishing in the top 8. "We seemed to have a lot of kids stuck in ninth place. Which we understand. As the competition cranks up, we want to run our best races, jump our best jumps, throw our best... Full story
NorthWestern Energy will increase the volume of water releases from Hebgen Dam to flush fine sediments from Madison River gravel to enhance the quality of spawning gravels that support the healthy wild trout fishery. Hebgen Dam outflows will gradually increase over several days to coincide with peak runoff in the West Fork Madison River and other tributary streams. The flow release increase is planned to begin May 26 and will continue through the end of May. River recreationists should be aware...
I grew up in a large family, and one limiting belief passed on to us was a scarcity mindset. I remember Dad telling us to get a good job with benefits, work hard, save as much as possible for 40 years, and then retire, as money doesn’t grow on trees. I lived this limiting belief for most of my adult life. Scarcity and abundance have been buzzwords floating around the internet for several years. As I dug deeper into my upbringing, I began to understand scarcity and the negative emotions it can bring, as family beliefs will stay with us unless we...

To date, all samples have come back negative for a series of pathogens and toxins. A thorough investigation led by the Gallatin City-County Health Department, with support from the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS), the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is s...
After a closer review of the licenses that were mistakenly over-drawn last week, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is going to allow the drawing to stand for one bighorn sheep license type and two moose license types. For sheep license 482-20 the quota was supposed to be 15, but FWP mistakenly allocated 20 licenses to hunters. For moose licenses 270-50 and 341-50 the quota was two, but FWP mistakenly allocated three. In these three circumstances, the number of licenses drawn are within the quotas set by the Fish and Wildlife Commission and moving...
