  • The Prairie Doc: Bring home memories, not ticks

    Andrew Ellsworth M.D.|Jul 27, 2022

Recently our family went on a camping trip. Our kids loved how we canoed our supplies across a lake and set up our campsite. My wife and I were reminded how much work it is. Soon our children were experiencing more mosquitos, flies, caterpillars, and ticks than they had ever seen before. On one of our lovely hikes, nearly every time I looked down, I found another tick crawling on my shoe or leg. Ticks love tall grass, wooded areas, and other moist and humid environments often close to the ground. Although you may find them on your head, they...

  • Column: With a shoe

    Jack H. Smith, Three Forks Voice|Jul 27, 2022

When I lived for a short time in the Front Range area of Colorado, I quickly found out the residents of the state have crazy love for locally grown peaches and green chili. It is not uncommon to see green chili put on burritos, burgers, omelets, and everything in between. I was no stranger to the dish, having worked at a restaurant specializing in it, and their version was so good I’d probably eat it on my shoe. I was always leery of making it, but anytime I heard someone had a recipe, I would pick their brain for ideas. On one occasion, I s...

  • Coaches Corner: Choose Happy

    Ellie West, Contributing Writer|Jul 27, 2022

About eight years ago, I first heard the song “Happy” by Pharrell Williams while at work on an airplane. With no passengers on board, we played the song as it set the tone for our day. I knew it would be a hit. The song is full of positive energy, and who doesn’t like to be and feel happy. This is one of my go-to songs when I am in a funk and need a boost in my day. It always puts a smile on my face and a song in my heart. Lately, it seems that we as a society are lacking happiness. We strive daily to accomplish our goals and do things right...
