Last week, the Montana Department of Transportation issued a press release with their plans to construct a law enforcement office at the planned Headwaters Rest Area in Three Forks. Within a matter of minutes, those who live close to the planned rest area had plenty to say. Several area residents have also filed a lawsuit in conjunction with the proposed location. Justin Brewer, who lives near the planned rest area, fired back to comments from MDT Butte District Administrator William Fogarty, who said in the release, “We heard the public’s con...
There are some big plans in the works at Pathways Assisted Living in Three Forks. Owner Kathy Pruett recently said they have placed the building at 622 S. Main Street on the market and discussed plans to relocate the facility. “Our desire is to relocate the facility to a more rural setting for residents to have a better quality of life,” she said. With a new facility, Pruett added they will create more spacious rooms, and more activity spaces noting the winter months at the current location are difficult for residents. “We are going to creat... Since the Headwaters Rest Area project finally became public knowledge, many have asked the question: “Why are you fighting it so hard?” That is a fair question to ask, and the answer overwhelmingly provided by the Three Forks community is a simple one – we object to the selected rest area location itself. The site raises significant problems, but objections to these problems have gone largely unheard and the project has now entered the construction stage. Rest areas are a nightmare concerning maintenance, they provide opportunity for indiv...
We read in your press release dated 17 August 2021 that “MDT is committed to being a good neighbor and is excited to provide our law enforcement partners with an office space to better serve the surrounding populations,”. You propose a law enforcement space for a community that lacks the law enforcement to occupy that space. We in southern Broadwater County and the Three Forks Area do not want you as our neighbor. Your reputation precedes you. You are a crime magnet. In your current location, law enforcement was needed on 132 occasions in 202...

On July 12, Florence-based fly-fishing outfitter Jay Dixon took a look at the forecast calling for several days of near triple-digit heat and decided to temporarily close his business during one of the busiest times of the year in what was shaping up to be his busiest season in his 30 years in the business. He'd been watching streamflows plummet, water temperatures rise and angling pressure increase, so he decided to park his drift boat to give the wild trout he's built his business and... Full story

The county's population is now approaching 120,000 residents, making it one of the fastest-growing regions in the state. Yet despite the apparent abundance, some local residents, health...

HELENA – Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is beginning the biennial hunting regulations review process, and this year the department is looking to take a fresh approach. In the past, the biennial hunting regulation process typically had few changes to the existing regulations. This year, FWP will tackle more significant changes such as combining hunting districts and simplifying license structures, while still keeping focused on statewide wildlife population management goals. “Hunters have told us for years that our regulations are too complicate...
