Have you ever taken a moment to reflect on the values that guide your life and where they come from? Recently, I had the opportunity to participate in a practice session centered around NLP as I near the completion of my Masters’s Certification. During this session, a process was introduced to help us define our values, and it was truly enlightening. As I listed my top ten values and went through the process, I discovered something fascinating - some of my values shifted. Even though my values remained fairly congruent, I realized that our valu...
Summer has many activities, and our days seem to slip away. This past week I had my granddaughters for Nana camp. It was a week of learning, growing, and exploring. It was a week when I had to think about the positive impact I wanted to instill in them. We began the first day of Nana camp with a craft. I googled some fun ideas and found a YouTube tutorial on string art. It would be a fun and fairly easy project, and as it turns out, they loved the activity. As we ventured into day two of Nana’s camp, we had a day in Helena where they would b...

Summer means longer days, more time outdoors, BBQs, hikes, adventures, events, and family gatherings. My husband and I have hosted family gatherings for the last several years. Family members, siblings, their spouses, and cousins come in from other states to celebrate as we reconnect and make new and beautiful memories. Our long-term goal in hosting family gatherings is to leave a legacy where the family will reconnect each year. Families are important, but what is more important is the physical...

A thorn in the flesh is sometimes described as a persistent problem we can't seem to resolve. It can be anything - a relationship, persecution, an experience, a trauma, or a job we are stuck in. Where did the phrase, a thorn in the flesh" originate that is often used in our modern-day lives? It originated in the New Testament writings of Paul. His weaknesses, insults, hardships, and all the earthly discomforts he experienced made him look to God for strength. When I think about a "thorn," I...
What brings you joy seems to be a simple enough question, but when was the last time you considered your level of joy? Some may find that they are out of balance and wondering how to fix it. Although we all strive to be more positive, few of us know how to bring more pleasure into our lives while pushing away negative thoughts and worries about how things should go. Life happens, and we sometimes fall into the trap that a happy life means every day must be perfect. For most people and me, that joy you feel deep inside lies within the tiny...

Courage is more than facing fear and doubt; it’s also about standing up for my beliefs and values, speaking the truth, and being open to opportunities for growth in all my experiences. By choosing to build courage, I declare my intention to live a life of my design that is true to who I am on the deepest level. I don’t know who wrote this manifesto, but I found it about three years ago when I chose a word for that year. This resonated with me, and I still ponder “courage” daily. I think about courage and what it means to different people....
Have you ever experienced - “What was I thinking?”… “Why did I do that?” … “ I can’t believe I said that!” … or “Why didn’t I stand up and say something?” These are all common expressions of regret, and we all have them at some point. You crumble under pressure or make poor decisions. Perhaps you have let your family down or have a disconnected relationship. Whatever that voice is telling you, it is simply not true. It’s time to declutter your mind and heart and not let those nagging voices haunt you. Stop blaming God for the “why’s,” God is...

Why is it sometimes so hard to say, “I’m sorry, please forgive me, or I forgive you.” Perhaps it has something to do with false pride, self-worth, insecurities, or deep pain. Self-worth is often based on possessions and titles, and false pride is based on comparing ourselves to others. Insecure people are fragile and do their best to protect themselves from hurt. Deep pain holds you in a place of despair. This topic is challenging to write about because I have often struggled with forgiveness. I ask myself how to forgive those who have offen... Full story

How many of you feel stuck... in life or vocation? I have often felt stuck and had plenty of reasons to believe I wasn’t enough or capable. First, I was in a remedial reading group in second grade. Second, I stood before my peers with a dunce hat on at a young age. And third, I remember my dad telling me to get an excellent job with great benefits, work for 30-plus years, and then retire, thus creating a feeling of being stuck. Those experiences and words planted a seed in me at a young age, making me feel like I wasn’t enough or capable. You... Full story
