After countless hours of hard work during the offseason and the last several weeks in practice, the Three Forks High School wrestling team is ready to hit the mat for their first competition of the season.
Coming off a third-place finish at the Class B State Tournament in February, the Wolves will open the 2021-22 season this Friday and Saturday at a tournament in Cascade.
“We are excited to get back out there. We are super stoked to be going to Cascade and getting in a tournament situation again,” Head Coach Nye Howey said.
During the first few weeks of practice, Howey said they are concentrating on getting each of their individual wrestlers to be the best they can be.
“If we can do that and get everybody to the caliber they can wrestle at, the team titles will come on their own,” Howey said.
A strong group of returning wrestlers for Three Forks will be led by defending state champion Brayden Linville, who went undefeated last season. Howey said Cole Rogers is coming into the season after getting two All-American honors this summer. Howey added some of the other strong wrestlers who will return are Dylan Kamps, Gabe Hungerford, and Chase Kirkland.
Howey said newcomers Jack Hayder and Logan Douma would help out the program this season, but Douma will not participate until later in the year due to an injury. He added junior Levi Wagner was lost for the season due to a knee injury.
“We’ve had some detrimental injuries, but we will work through those and see what happens. We have quality wrestlers coming back, and we’re just excited to be back,” he said.
