While the Three Forks High School tennis team only had four players with enough practices to compete in their season opener Saturday against Granite High School, those who were able to make the trip did not disappoint. The Wolves ended the day with a 5-1 record in the matches played in Manhattan.
“It was a great day for a meet and to get out and play,” Head Coach Janna Lauver said.
In doubles action, seniors Macie Jensen and Lauren Stone picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lavina Tenesch and Marina Flores. Karin Williams and Alicia Deriana were also victorious with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Maya Flores and Terese Buhr.
In singles action, Williams defeated Flores 6-0, 6-1, and Stone beat Buhr 6-1, 6-0. Deriana was also victorious with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Flores.
“Our seniors (Jensen and Stone) worked really well together as a doubles team, and I think they will be ready to try both doubles and singles this spring to see where they best fit. Our Junior Alicia Deriana played singles for the first time and had great success. Karin Williams played singles again after getting some late season success at singles in Great Falls last spring. I am very impressed with each of the player’s growth and use of new skills at this meet,” Lauver said.
Three Forks will next compete Thursday in Townsend against Broadwater and Lone Peak. On Monday the Wolves will travel to a JV tournament in Manhattan.
