STAFF REPORT
Three Forks wrestlers showed up big time at the recent 2022 Northwest 16 Under and Junior Greco and Freestyle Regionals in Centralia, Washington.
Three Forks ended the tournament with three qualifiers for the 2022 16 Under and Junior Nationals this summer in Fargo.
Jacob Murphy had a fantastic tournament qualifying for nationals in both Greco-Roman and freestyle with a pair of second-place finishes in the 16U 100-pound division.
Cole Rogers had already earned a spot at nationals by placing last year in Greco-Roman in Fargo but also qualified in freestyle by finishing in fourth place in the 16U 106-pound division. Rogers also had a qualifying finish ending the tourney fourth in Greco-Roman.
Dylan Kamps will also be making the trip to Fargo after finishing fifth place in the Junior 145-pound division.
Chase Kirkland, Gabe Hungerford, and Bruno Ferreyra also won matches for Three Forks.
14U
While the 14U division did not serve as a qualifier for Nationals, it was another opportunity for Three Forks wrestlers to shine – and they did. Mathias Hogue won the regional title in the 14U 114-pound division in Greco-Roman.
Hogue also finished third in freestyle, where he had the most pins and technical falls in the least amount of time, with four in 3:24.
Wyatt Hart-Barker also had a tremendous showing, finishing third in the 14U 125 Festival Freestyle Division and fourth in the 14U 122-pound division.
The 14U wrestlers will get a chance to qualify in June for Nationals.
The regional had a total field of 750.
