City of Three Forks accepting applications for Judge position

The City of Three Forks is accepting applications for a City Judge.

According to City Treasurer and Court Clerk Kelly Smith, Judge Wanda Drusch has put in her resignation for June 30, and they will be looking to fill the position as soon as possible.

The term for Drusch expires on December 31, 2022. Smith said the position would be reappointed again in January of 2023.

POSITION

The person holding the office of city judge shall be nominated by an interviewing committee comprised of the Mayor and a one to two Council members, and appointed by the Mayor. The duties of this position are outlined in City Code 1-7-3.

Applicants shall meet the minimum qualifications outlined in Title 3, Chapter 6, Part 2, MCA, and Article VII, Part VII of the Constitution of the State of Montana as follows:

• A citizen of the United States who has resided in the state for two years

• Reside in the county in which the court is located,

• Complete a minimum of 15 hours of continuing judicial education requirements yearly.

Those with one or more of the following criteria shall be given preference:

• An attorney at law authorized to practice law in the state of Montana;

• A person who has held the office of justice of the peace or city judge within the preceding five years; or

• A person who has completed the orientation course of study held under the direction of the Montana Supreme Court or has been excused by the Supreme Court. If a person is appointed after the course is offered, the appointee must agree to take the course at the next offering, and upon failure to do so, will be disqualified.
