The second annual Montana Warrior Run-Gallatin Valley, which raises money for area veterans, is scheduled for Saturday, August 27, in Three Forks.
The Impact Montana event features a 10K/10K Ruck at 8:30 a.m., a 5K at 10 a.m., and one mile run at 11:15 a.m., all starting at Veterans Park.
Run Coordination Parker Taylor said the event mirrors other Warrior Run events around the state.
According to Parker, Impact Montana's mission is to improve people's lives through six "thrive factors" (physical, financial, social, career, spiritual, and family) to hopefully prevent issues from coming up.
Looking back at last year, Taylor said things went well, and they also learned a few things to make this year's run better.
"We changed the course just a bit, so runners don't have to go along the highway, and this year there will be portable toilets on site. I am very excited to be coordinating this event for a second year and showing our support for Impact Montana, an organization that has helped improve the lives of many Montana veterans," Taylor said.
For those unfamiliar with "rucking," Parker described it as "simply walking with weights".
"It's a great form of low-impact cardio and a foundation of a lot of military training. I love rucking (running, not so much), so it was important to me that this event has a rucking option," said Taylor. "So, if you want to support the event but you're not a runner, throw a few pounds in a backpack and try the ruck option. I usually ruck with 30-40 pounds, but if you've never done it before, start with 15-20, or maybe even just a full camelback. Whatever you're comfortable with is fine."
With the race just around the corner, Parker expects more ruckers this year, noting a new veteran-oriented rucking club in Bozeman, associated with a national group called Irreverent Warriors.
"Don't be shocked when you see the length, or lack thereof, of their shorts," he said.
