The Three Forks High School Cross Country boys' team had a dominant performance last Saturday in the regular season finale at the Rusty Raisland Invitational in Townsend.
The Wolves had six runners set personal records on their way to a first-place finish with 40 points, defeating second-place Jefferson, who finished with 56.
"The Wolves had an excellent day today. The boys' team had a huge meet with lots of big PRs and a confidence-building race for state," Head Coach Tara Forsberg said.
Garrett Golding and Bryon Fanning led the way for the first-place finish for Three Forks. Golding finished first, just edging out Fanning, with both finishing with PRs of 17:05. Beau Johnston finished in sixth place with a time of 17:19, and Cass Violett was also in the top ten, finishing ninth with a PR of 17:56. Christopher Harmon finished with a PR of 18:59, Finn Hanson had a PR of 19:38 and Noah Hegar ended the race with a PR of 20:19.
According to Forsberg, the Wolves girls' team chose to run for pace or rest at last Saturday's invite.
Both squads compete Saturday in Missoula at the MHSA State Cross Country Championships at the University of Montana Golf Course.
The girls will look to improve on last year's fifth-place finish in a race scheduled for 1:10 p.m. After finishing second in 2021, the boys' squad will look to pick up a state title at 2:20 p.m.
"We are feeling good going into state. I can't wait to see what the wolves can do next Saturday," Forsberg said.
