Thrilling weekend for Ice Dogs Hockey team

It was a thriller this weekend in Bozeman with the Ice Dogs taking on the Butte Copper City Kings, Flathead Fusion, and Helena Big Horns.

The Ice Dogs were victorious against the Butte Copper City Kings on Saturday. The Ice Dogs' defense led by team Captain Maren Carr and goalie Aislynn Gifford shut down the fast-paced Butte Offense.

Gifford had 36 saves in their 3-2 victory while the defense kept the opposing forwards at bay.

Not to be outdone on offense forwards Acie Kelly of Three Forks put up two goals and Kaydence Jensen of Belgrade scored a third.

In the following game of the doubleheader, the Ice Dogs went back and forth with the Helena Big Horns with both teams scoring a flurry of goals in the second period. Tadley Kelly of Three Forks finished the day with a goal and assist. Naomi Gifford of Three Forks was also able to find the back of the net with an assist from Tadley Kelley. The game was a team effort on offense with Kaydence Jensen, Gabriella Bagely, Acie Kelley, and Teegan Gifford all scoring goals.

Unfortunately, the game finished in a nail-biting fashion. The Ice Dogs took a questionable penalty with just over two minutes left in the game. This allowed Helena to pull their goalie and flood the rink with an additional forward making it 6 on 4. Helena scored tying it up with just over a minute left in play. Helena sealed the deal with a last-minute goal and burned the remaining 30 seconds off the clock. Giving them the win in the high-scoring battle at 7-6.

On Sunday the Ice Dogs took on the Flathead Fusion who continue to be a thorn in their side. Flathead dominated the game with their fast first line. The Ice Dogs were just not able to get any momentum on offense or defense. Flathead used their size and speed to their advantage ending the Ice Dogs' weekend in a loss.
