Wolves flex muscle at 2 weekend events

It was a phenomenal weekend of results for the Three Forks High School Wrestling team, with outstanding performances at the prestigious Bozeman LeProwse All-Class Tournament and Columbus Invite.

The Wolves had four of 10 wrestlers in place and finished 11th out of 30 teams at the tournament on January 6 and 7 in Bozeman. Cole Rogers (120) and Levi Wagner (138) both finished in fourth place, and Brayden Linville finished in fifth at 113 pounds at the tournament that featured some of the best wrestlers in the state.

Three Forks was dominant in Columbus, finishing in second place with 229.5 team points. 10 of the 14 Three Forks wrestlers competing placed, including Brummie Boggus (103), Mathias Hogue (126), and Jesse Eide (160), winning their weight divisions. The Wolves finished second to Billings West, who entered 26 more wrestlers than Three Forks.

Finishing in second place in Columbus were Logan Douma (120), Wyatt Hart-Barker (132), and Josiah Gonzalez (285). Gabe Hungerford, Carson Lattimore (160), and Randy Pyfer (182) all finished in third place. Thomas Rowan (138) and Vincent Diaz (170) finished fourth.

Braden Gruber (103) and Raegan Ashley (152) both won matches in Columbus.

Rogers won his first three at the tournament, a pin over Kannon Grant of Cody (WY) at 1:34, a win by technical fall over Colter Espelin of Butte, and a win by technical fall over Payne Reilly of Forsyth. After losing in the semifinals to eventual champion Mason Gutenberger of Belgrade, Rogers won an 11-2 major decision over Ty Peterson of Cody. Rogers lost a heartbreaker in the third-place match to Gavin Nedens of Huntley Project.

Wagner opened the tournament with a pin over Joe Fernandez of Great Falls CMR (2:56) and a pin of Abe Potts of Forsyth at 2:51. After falling in the quarterfinals, Wagner won a 10-6 decision over Jack Montoya of Bozeman, pinned Colter Fleming of Park at 2:26, and won a 10-5 decision over Gage McGillvray of Park.

Linville went 5-2 at the tournament with a decision win over Cash Clark of Great Falls, a pin at :57 over Joey Ward of Butte, a pin over Cole Schaub of Billings Skyview at 1:45, a 20-8 major decision over Clark, and a 4-3 decision win over Ryder McEwen in the fifth-place match.

Boggus had two pins in Bozeman at 103 pounds, Chase Kirkland went 3-2 at 132 pounds, Dylan Kamps won two matches at 145 pounds, Jack Hayder had a pin at 152 pounds, and Gonzalez had a pin at 285 pounds.

The team will compete on January 13 and 14 in Salt Lake City.
