It was a busy weekend with plenty of impressive results for the Three Forks High School Tennis team at last week’s DawgBite Invitational, with the Wolves winning 22 matches over two days.
In day one action, Three Forks played against Lone Peak, Chester-Joplin-Inverness, and had a match with Broadwater, Fairfield, and Simms. Three Forks finished the day with a 7-9 record with two incomplete matches.
“We struggled a little to find our pace, especially against teams we hadn’t played yet, like Lone Peak, CJI, and Simms. We had only 1:15 minutes on each court and had to travel around a bit, so it made for fewer matches and shortened matches which were challenging. We had some close matches, including a single set with Alicia Deriana and Ruby Warden against Broadwater’s Liz Collins and Lexi Howard which ended in a tiebreaker that Broadwater won. We are looking forward to a rematch at Divisionals,” said Head Coach Janna Lauver. “Junior Ali Kotter took over the #1 spot this week and saw some great matches against LP, CJI, Fairfield, and Simms. She had amazing rallies with Maya Willson of Fairfield and Baylee Herman from Simms. Her speed and agility make her a lightning-fast opponent.”
It was a solid second day for the Wolves, who finished 15-6 in matches against Wolf Point, Chinook, Great Falls Central, and Jefferson.
“We hit the ground running on day 2 with 1:30 minutes for each match and less travel. Everyone on the team had a win this day in some of the hottest weather we have played in, at 75 degrees and very little shade. Our singles performed well under pressure, with sophomores Malia Eriksson and Claire Cutler rounding out the #3 and #4 spots for the weekend, giving a consistent performance and winning all the matches they were able to complete,” said Lauver. “Doubles teams also had a great weekend of challenges. Ruby Warden and Alicia Deriana had three wins and one loss against fellow 2022 state contenders from Chinook. Maddie Griffiths and Karin Williams also had a pair of wins and a loss to Chinook after a hotly (pun intended) contended match that went long, with a tiebreak and a second set ending 5-7.”
