There will not be a November election for three open seats on the Three Forks City Council.
At a meeting last week, the Three Forks Council approved a resolution canceling the election for three full-term seats on the Council. The mail-only election had been scheduled for Tuesday, November 7, for the three four-year Council terms.
With the passing of the resolution, current Council member Ed Tharp will be elected by acclimation. Tharp was appointed to the Council in February after the resignation of Steve Dahl.
While it was stated at the meeting that current Council member Roxi McDermott had sent her paperwork to file for the position by the September 5 deadline, City Treasurer Kelly Smith said on Tuesday that Gallatin County had yet to receive it. The Council appointed McDermott in May to fill the remainder of the term of Debra Mickelberry. If the County does not receive the paperwork from McDermott, the governing body must appoint two council members for two-year terms expiring at the end of 2025. No candidates filed for the position currently held by Council Member Nancy Todd.
Before the vote, City Treasurer Kelly Smith said the cancellation would save approximately $3,500.
