The Three Forks/Ennis High School Wrestling fared well against intense competition and two events last week in Ronan.
The Wolves finished in fourth place at the Western Montana Ronan Duals on Friday, January 5, and finished seventh out of 20 teams the following day at the Western Montana Boys' Invitational.
Head Coach Nye Howey said it was a good two days of wrestling for the team overall.
Three Forks/Ennis opened the Duals event strong, picking up a 66-12 victory over Missoula Sentinel. Emry Veland (113), Cole Rogers (120), Logan Douma (126), Tatum Todd (132), Wyatt Hart-Barker (138), Gabe Hungerford (145), Brody Myer (160), Nicolai Kovnesky (170), and Randy Pyfer (205) all won by fall for the Wolves.
The Wolves had a thrilling 39-36 victory over Florence in the quarterfinals.
Rogers, Jacob Murphy (126), Todd, Carson Lattimore (182), and Veland all had pins for the Wolves, and Hart-Barker had a 9-3 decision win.
Howey said the team wrestled very tough in the wins over Sentinel and Florence.
Three Forks/Ennis fell 64-12 in the semifinals against host Ronan High School. Todd and Rogers both had wins by fall for the Wolves.
Three Forks fell 46-21 to Frenchtown High School in the third-place match. Pyfer and Rogers had won by fall, and Hungerford picked up a 7-0 decision victory.
The Wolves had seven wrestlers place at the Western Montana Boys' Invitational. Todd finished in second at 132, Murphy was third at 126, Veland finished fourth at 113, Howie Gayle (103) and Pyfer (205) finished in fifth, and Hart-Barker (138) and Lattimore (182) finished in sixth place.
Gayle had a 5-2 decision win over Landon Hansen of Frenchtown and a pin at 53 over Chase Blue of Browning.
Veland had a pin at:47 over Colt Yocum of Hamilton and an 8-1 win over Lyrik Fainter of Bigfork.
Murphy had a pin at 3:00 over Darrin Benton of Libby, a 13-3 Majority Decision over Cooper Hardy of Frenchtown, and a pin in the third-place match at 3:39 against Sean Davis of Corvallis.
Todd won by fall over Hunter Pope of Bonners Ferry at 2:53 and picked up another pin in the semifinals at 3:42 against Jon Post of Florence.
Hart-Barker had a 10-6 decision win against Stryder Lierman of Bonners Ferry, an 8-7 win over Labron Shooter of Browning, and a win by fall at 1:39 against Adam Loveless of Hamilton.
Lattimore had a 7-2 decision win over Kyrin Doty of Polson and a win by fall at 2:08 over Eli Dickson of Deer Lodge.
Pyfer had a win by fall at 44 over Jacob Pesick of Townsend, a pin at 1:55 over Tate Smith of Deer Lodge, and a pin in the fifth-place match at 1:47 against Maurice Craun of Corvallis.
In junior varsity action, Brock Sneed finished in fifth place at 132 pounds with two pins and a 10-8 decision victory.
Vincent Diaz had a pin for the Wolves at 182 pounds.
The Wolves will next be in action on January 12 and 13 at the Cowboy Classic in Miles City.
Howey said it would be nice to get to Miles City and see some of the teams they will be competing against later this year at the Divisional Tournament. He added that as the team gets closer to the postseason, he wants the kids to work harder in practice to clean and sharpen up things.
