In a December battle between the two best 120-pound wrestlers in the state, Three Forks senior Cole Rogers lost a dramatic match 6-4 in sudden victory to Chris Grossman of Billings Skyview in the finals of the CMR Classic in Great Falls. Flash forward to January 13 at the finals of the 65th annual Cowboy Classic Invitational in Miles City, Rogers was not only able to avenge his loss with a thrilling 4-2 sudden victory over Grossman, but the win was also the 100th of his high school career.
Rogers opened the tournament with four wins by fall, picking up pins over Landon Spencer of Lockwood (1:16), Kaiden Culbertson of Alexander (1:01), Jonah Bucks of Malta (1:32), and Kona Fandrich of Malta (3:08).
"It was cool to get my 100th win while winning the Cowboy Invitational Tournament in SV OT to the only wrestler I've lost a match to this year," Rogers said.
After winning state titles in his sophomore and junior seasons, Rogers has mixed feelings about the upcoming postseason.
"It's sad to see it come soon, but I'm more excited than ever for the postseason. I'm going to miss my coaches and teammates, but I'm looking forward to what comes next," he said.
As a team, Three Forks/Ennis finished 13th out of 29 teams at the Cowboy Classic.
