It's postseason time for the Three Forks High School Boys' Basketball team.
After finishing 10-2 in conference play, the Wolves will open the 5B District Tournament as a two-seed and a Wednesday, February 14 matchup with seventh-seed Townsend in a game scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Manhattan Christian High School. The winner of the first-round game will play either third seed Jefferson or six seed Ennis on Friday, February 16 at 7 p.m.
In their final home game of the season, Three Fork (12-6, 10-2 5B) came out of the gates strong, taking a 40-21 lead into halftime of a 64-44 victory on February 8 against visiting Lone Peak.
"We always play hard. That's our staple. Tonight, I thought they played extremely hard, every single guy. They were cheering each other on. Their effort and body language was amazing. It was just an awesome environment. The guys from the 1974 state title team came down and talked to our guys before the game, and it was just a great night," Head Coach Terry Hauser said.
It was a huge night for senior Shane Williams, who led the team in scoring with a game-high 20 points, and Dylan Swenson added nine for the Wolves.
Post-players Kanon Reichman and Dryden Frisinger each had eight points in the 20-point victory.
"Anytime you can get a touch in the paint, it's big time. When you have two big guys like that playing inside at a high level, it gives us that high percentage shot," Hauser said.
Senior Sam Tesoro and Hunter Feddes finished with six points, senior Caleb Van Vleet had five, and Sawyer Andersen finished with two points.
Following the victory, Hauser said he was impressed with the team's camaraderie.
"We're coming together at the right time," he said.
The Wolves closed the regular season on February 9 with a 43-40 loss at Manhattan.
Swenson led Three Forks in scoring with 13, Williams was also in double figures with 10, and Reichman finished with four. Van Vleet, Tesoro, and Andersen each scored three points, and Frisinger and Feddes added two.
