Attempted Homicide at Gallatin Valley Mall Parking Lot

On July 12, 2024, at approximately 8:43 PM, officers were dispatched to a report of a male who had been struck by a vehicle in the Gallatin Valley Mall Parking lot.

Although the suspect had left the area, officers gathered information from witnesses and were able to identify him. The suspect, later identified as Keinan Carrier, age 21 of Bozeman, was soon located at his residence nearby but refused to exit the residence. A crisis negotiator from the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office was able to gain compliance and he was subsequently taken into custody. Carrier was transported to the Gallatin County Detention Center and is being charged with attempted homicide.

The victim struck by the vehicle sustained numerous injuries and was transported from the scene for medical treatment.

During the investigation, officers learned the incident was likely the result of previous challenges to fight and to race.

“We would like to thank the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, Bozeman Fire Department, and American Medical Response (AMR) for their assistance,” Chief Jim Veltkamp stated. “This incident is still under investigation. If you have any additional information, please call 582-2000 so you can be connected to the investigating detectives.”

Stabbing Near Kirk Park

Shortly after 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, Bozeman Police Department (BPD) officers responded to the intersection of N. 20th Avenue and W. Beall Street for reports of a stabbing.
