The Broadwater County Sheriff's Office is hiring a Three Forks Resident Deputy for the County's southern end.
Sheriff Nick Rauser announced the opening last week and will accept applications until August 23.
"The south end Deputy is a huge priority of mine. It was a priority when I ran for Sheriff, and I try my best to hold to my word. Having another deputy down there is huge with the growing population and now the businesses that are going in down there. We need to stay ahead of it to the best of our abilities so we don't get behind and try to play catch-up," Rauser said.
According to Rauser, the Montana Department of Revenue caught up on the growth this year, and the County recognized a big increase in mill value.
"The state came in and took some of the County's mills away. However, the mill levy we have was not reduced, so I was able to hire the school resource officer and the south-end Deputy with the increased value. When we were going for the mill levy, we promised that we would get more Deputies, and with that levy, we will have four more new Deputies after this position is filled," he said.
Regarding the area's growth, Rauser said they are seeing an increase in calls at the County's southern end and see a little bit of everything with calls. "We have had several DUIs down there this year, Partner of Family Member Assaults (PFMAs), traffic issues, noise complaints, and just about everything else," he said.
