The Three Forks High School Cross Country team will open its 2024 campaign on Friday, August 30, at the Jefferson High School Invitation in Boulder.
According to longtime Head Coach Tara Forsberg, ten girls and four boys have joined this year's team.
Looking back at the offseason, Forsberg said summer running went pretty well for the Wolves, but many of the student-athletes are very busy in all areas of their lives, so it's hard to catch them regularly.
"I can tell a lot of them have been working this summer. They're looking really strong," Forsberg said.
The Three Forks girls' team will return a wealth of talent from last year's team, which finished fourth at the Class B State Meet last October. This includes Teegan Gifford, who finished in fifth place at state as an eighth grader, and returning senior Bella Jones, who finished in 15th.
"I am looking forward to seeing what happens with our girls this year. We lost Ari (Judd) but have some strong female runners who can take her place," Forsberg said.
For the boys, Three Forks will return senior standout Cass Violett, who finished in the top 20 at the 2022 state meet and helped his team to a second-place finish that season.
"Cass is a great example of what hard work can do. He is very focused on an excellent season. Jacoby Berg and Brady Olson are looking really good. Our boys are pretty small in numbers, but we will work in individual success for them," Forsberg said.
With the season set to start Friday, Forsberg is looking forward to competing in Boulder.
"It's a fun meet with great athletes and a good starting point for our season," she said.
The 2024 Three Forks schedule will also include road trips to Bozeman on September 14, Butte on September 20, and the Mountain West Invite in Missoula on September 28.
The Wolves will host their annual Headwaters Invite on Friday, October 4.
Three Forks will then compete on October 10 at the Capital City Invite in Helena and on October 19 at the Broadwater County High School meet in Townsend.
The Wolves will wrap up the season on October 26 at the MHSA State Meet in Missoula.
