The Three Forks High School Football team put an exclamation point on the finish of their non-conference schedule with a 53-12 Homecoming win on September 20 against visiting Anaconda High School.
For the third straight game, the Wolves scored 40 points in the first half and finished with over 50 in a victory that included another strong performance for the Three Forks defense.
Facing off against a pass-heavy Copperhead team, the Wolves were able to come away with four interceptions, including a pick-six from sophomore Marcus Pestel.
"All week, we knew they (Anaconda) wanted to come out and throw the ball. That's the kind of team they are. They like to chuck it around and spread it around, so we put a big emphasis on the pass game this week. And we came out tonight and executed the game plan very well," Head Coach Connor Sullivan said.
As hard been the case the first three games of the season, the Wolves received the ball to start the game and once again wasted little time finding the scoreboard. They went up 7-0 with 9:52 left in the first quarter when sophomore quarterback Kanon Reichman connected with Pestel for a 32-yard scoring strike.
Reichman would score on a five-yard run midway through the quarter to push the lead to 14-0 and connect again with Pestel on the next drive for a four-yard touchdown to put the Wolves up 21-0.
After the Copperheads cut the lead to 21-6, Sawyer Andersen would score on an eight-yard run to increase the lead to 28-6 with 8:38 left in the first half.
Moments later, Pestel would score his third touchdown of the first half with a 32-yard interception return to balloon the Wolves lead to 36-6.
Another Reichman rushing touchdown, this time from 11 yards out, would be the final points of the half, with Three Forks taking a 43-6 lead into the break.
Jackson Fanning would score the lone touchdown of the second half on a 30-yard run in the third quarter, and Marcus Lattimore would round out the scoring with a 26-yard field goal to put the Wolves up 53-6.
Following the game, Sullivan praised the play of the offensive unit.
"It's the most technical unit in football and we spend a lot of time, whether that's the line, the receivers, or blocking, and we know it's the most technical unit, so that takes some time. And tonight, it clicked on all cylinders," he said.
Reichman finished his night 12 of 15 passing for 163 yards with two touchdowns and had 106 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Three Forks (4-0) will open conference play on the road on September 27 against 3-1 Jefferson High School (Boulder).
"It should be a great matchup. That's a great program up there, a tough program for years and years and years, and that's a tough place to play," said Sullivan. "It's going to be a pretty good environment and pretty good atmosphere, so we need a great week of practice. In this conference you are not guaranteed anything. You have to be ready to go each week mentally and physically."
