State Champ: Violett finishes first

Senior breaks his own school record with time of 15:54.0

In the final regular season meet of the season on October 17 in Townsend, Three Forks High School senior Cass Violett set a school record with a time of 15:57. Nine days later, on the biggest stage in the Treasure State, Violett once again broke a school and personal record on his way to winning an individual state championship with a time of 15:54.0 at the Class B State Championships on October 26 at the University of Montana Golf Course in Missoula.

"It feels really awesome. I worked for it all summer. I knew it wasn't going to be easy, so it feels amazing to end my season as a state champion," Violett said after the race.

After setting the school record in Townsend on what Violett described as a really fast course, he said it was great to do it again in Missoula.

"To be able to beat that here was really awesome. It's not an easy course, but I love it," Violett said.

Wolves Head Coach Tara Forsberg said it felt unbelievable to watch Violett win a state title and lauded the senior standout for the amount of work and dedication he has put into running since sixth grade.

"It was beautiful. I think he had the goal a few weeks ago to break 16 minutes, and once he was able to do that last week, Cass knew he had the confidence to do that today," Forsberg said.

In the girls' race, freshman Teegan Gifford earned All-State honors for the second consecutive season, finishing in 12th place with a PR of 20:13.1.

Senior Bella Jones finished in 28th with a time of 21:06.7, and senior Grace Kluin ended the race 52nd with a finish of 22:35.5.

Dawson Petersen had an outstanding race with a PR of 24:50.3, Devynn Judd finished with a season-best time of 25:47.6, Pailey Lampers finished with a season-best time of 26:50.7, and Isabella Meehan had a time of 28:35.2.

Sophomore Jacoby Berg ended his season in style, finishing the boys' race with a PR of 19:59.9, and Brady Olson ended the race at 20:35.2.

"I think they all did great. Everybody's attitude was great going in, and everybody loves this course. Good things happen here. It was a great day," Forsberg said.
