Each year, families and friends come together to celebrate Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November. Over the past few decades, the day following the federal holiday has become synonymous with "Black Friday," as shoppers go in mass to larger stores to get a jumpstart on their holiday shopping.
Black Friday has certainly become a cultural phenomenon, with crowds heading to "big box stores." Within the past two decades, it has been joined by "Cyber Monday," where online shoppers can take advantage of various deals.
While many look forward to getting a great deal during this marketing frenzy, it's also important to remember to shop local, especially in smaller communities like Three Forks.
"Small Business Saturday," scheduled this year for Saturday, November 30, is a perfect opportunity to get downtown Three Forks and support local businesses. Shopping locally is always a big deal for area businesses, and it's a huge boon during the holiday season when online or box store deals often tempt people.
Not only does shopping local on November 30 help local businesses, but it's also a perfect way to get something unique you won't find at a place like Walmart or Target.
One thing I cannot say enough about small businesses, especially in Three Forks, is that the owners genuinely care about the community. They repeatedly donate to local organizations, community events, and schools. They really do care, and it's important to remember to have their back. This is an important time to visit the local businesses and see what they have to offer.
Many factors contribute to having a tremendous small-town community and atmosphere like Three Forks, but you better believe these wonderful businesses play a big part in that. It's time to give them some love.
It also serves as a tremendous opportunity to get out and grab a bite to eat or a drink while shopping at one of the great local establishments, which Three Forks is lucky to have a lot of.
On a personal note, thanks to all of our fabulous advertisers. Please scroll through the Three Forks Voice and Lewis & Clark Journal pages to see who they are and what they have to offer.
You won't be disappointed. We are very thankful to have all of them.
For example, we've been advertising an amazing turkey deal at Three Forks Market and in December there is an incredible deal at Stageline Pizza if you donate a ham or turkey. We definitely understand how difficult and frustrating it can be to compete with larger businesses, and we appreciate all the small businesses in the Three Forks area.
