The Three Forks High School Girls' Basketball team excelled at last week's Magris Tournament, winning 42-23 on December 13 and 44-26 on December 14 against Anaconda.
The Lady Wolves shined on both sides of the court in the first half of the December 13 win against Drummond and would take a 33-6 lead into halftime on their way to their first win of the season.
Madelyn Tesoro led the team with a game-high 21, Devynn Judd finished with eight, Isabell Harris and Bella Jones had four, Maya Noble and Kylee Reichman finished with two, and Arabella McCauley had one point.
After falling behind 6-0 on December 14 against Anaconda, Three Forks would go on a 13-0 run and take a 17-13 lead into halftime. The Copperheads would battle back to tie it at 17 before a 13-0 run from the Lady Wolves, who would lead 31-19 going into the final quarter.
"We challenged them at halftime that we had to win the third quarter, and we very much did that, and I was really proud. Last night (December 13), we came out in the third quarter, and we were flat, and tonight we came out with a ton of energy and ready to go have a great second half, and that was huge for us," Head Coach Shayla Stemple said.
Tesoro had a big-time night for Three Forks, finishing with 22 points. Reichman had a great game off the bench, ending her night with eight, and Mikayla Lear and Jones finished with four. Noble, Hailey Williams, and Judd each had two points in the victory.
Stemple lauded the play of her bench in the victory, including Reichman's eight points, who she said played great. Stemple added that the depth on the bench allowed the team to press.
Following a season-opening loss on December 5 against West Yellowstone, Stemple said the team came in the following day to watch the film.
"Our growth from Thursday to Friday (December 5 to December 13) was huge. We're much more settled on offense, our energy on defense is way better, and we're already seeing great improvement," Stemple said.
Three Forks will be on the road this week on December 17 at Boulder and December 19 at Ennis.
