It was a tremendous start to the season for the Three Forks High School Boys' Basketball team at last week's Magris Tournament.
The Wolves opened their season on December 13 with a 62-24 home win over visiting Drummond and used a huge third-quarter run to win 70-49 against visiting Anaconda.
Three Forks came out of the gates strong in their opening game of the season, taking a 23-5 lead at the end of the first quarter, and continued their dominant play in the second quarter to take a 38-12 lead into halftime.
It was a well-balanced scoring attack for Three Fork, with Kanon Reichman leading the way with 12 points. Aaron DeFrance, Devon Long, and Sawyer Andersen finished with eight, Hunter Feddes had seven, Drydan Frisinger had six, Mannix Woodland ended his night with five, and Brady Olson finished with four. Carter Allen and Jacob Delay each finished with two points.
Tied at 31 early in the third quarter on December 14 against the Copperheads, the Wolves would use a massive third-quarter run to take control of the game.
Three Forks would close out the quarter on a 17-4 run to take a 48-35 lead going into the final quarter.
Head Coach Terry Hauser said his team played really well on defense in the first half, even though Anaconda hit some tough shots.
"Our offense was really stagnant, and they weren't executing the way we coached it up. In the second half, that's why you noticed the ball go inside a little more because they were doing what they were supposed to be doing. We were settling for open looks behind the arc in the first half. We have to get the ball inside first. We have great inside players, so our focus is inside out, and we demanded it go in there in the second half, and that's what happened," Hauser said.
Feddes led the team with a game-high 18 points, Reichman finished with 17, DeFrance had 14, and Long had a great night with nine points. Frisinger had six, and Andersen and Delay finished with three points.
The Wolves will travel for the first time this season this week, playing a December 17 game at Boulder and a December 19 matchup against Ennis.
"We're going to keep getting better. We're a pretty good ball club right now, but I think we're going to keep improving. We still have a first-team all-conference guy (Dylan Swenson) who's not even playing with us yet. I hope these guys are ready to grind and understand what we're capable of because I think we can do some great things this year,' Hauser said.
