For the second consecutive game, the Three Forks High School Boys' Basketball team held a conference foe under 40 points in a 55-38 home win on January 2 against Townsend.
In their first game since a 55-33 road win on December 19 at Ennis, Three Forks (5-0, 3-0 5B) would score 15 points in each of the first two quarters to take a 30-15 lead into halftime and would outscore the visiting Bulldogs 17-12 in the third quarter to push the lead to 20 going into the fourth.
"I thought we executed great defensively. That's going to win us a lot of games. Offensively, we have to be better. We turned it over too much. We didn't execute a couple of times on the sets we called. We have got to get better. We have to finish better. We probably missed five or six layups," said Hauser. "Our goal is to score 65 a game, 55 is not enough. We will keep grinding on the offensive end, and our defense is good enough to win us some games right now."
Senior Aaron DeFrance led the team in scoring with a game-high 20 points.
Hauser said it's huge to have DeFrance's on this year's squad.
"He's a great point guard, can pass, and probably has the best midrange game I've ever coached. We're lucky to have him," Hauser said.
The win over Townsend also marked the return of senior standout Dylan Swenson, who missed the first four games of the season due to injury.
Hauser said it was fantastic to have Swenson, who was also in double figures with 10, back in the lineup.
"You could tell he was a little nervous at first, but by the third quarter, he really started playing well again. I felt bad for him missing the first four games of the year as a senior, as much hard work as he's put into the game. He'll slowly keep getting better, Hauser said.
Devon Long and Drydan Frisinger had seven, Hunter Feddes finished with six, and Brady Olson added two points in the win.
The Three Forks game on January 4 at West Yellowstone was postponed due to road conditions.
